Crash Detection

To activate Crash Detection, Apple has created a sophisticated sensor-fusion algorithm that utilizes a new, more potent gyroscope and accelerometer on the Apple Watch. Also, this device now boasts the highest dynamic range accelerometer among all smartwatches. The algorithm was developed using data gathered from these advanced motion sensors during tests in professional crash labs. These tests simulated real-world accidents, including head-on collisions, rear-end impacts, side-impacts, and rollovers. In addition to motion data, Crash Detection uses the barometer, GPS, and the microphone on iPhone as inputs to detect the unique patterns that can indicate whether a severe crash has taken place.

Low Power Mode

To enhance connectivity, a new Low Power Mode can now extend the battery life of the Apple Watch Series 8 when paired with an iPhone. Moreover, this mode can help the watch last up to 36 hours by temporarily disabling or limiting certain sensors and features. Also, these include the Always-On Retina display, workout AutoStart, heart health notifications, and other functions.
